Someone posted this on Facebook. My first inclination was to respond with the words, “Said Jesus never”…accompanied with a winky face emoji, of course 😉 But I figured this person is probably going through something so I’ll keep my smart-ass comment to myself.

I almost chuckled to myself trying to envision Jesus saying these words displayed above. Can you imagine if this had been the attitude of Jesus?!? Heaven would be sooo empty right now! We would all be destined for hell because there is no way He would have died for us with that kind of stinkin’ thinkin’.

Sure, it’s easy to be good and loyal to someone who you know is going to treat you the same way. It’s easy to love the ones who are going to love you right back, but where is the reward in that? It may take great strength to show love to those you know will not show love in return, but it’s what Jesus calls us to do. And perhaps the more we practice this act of obedience the less challenging and more rewarding it will become? I tend to think so.

Luke 6: 32-36 (ESV) “If you love those who love you, what benefit is that to you? For even sinners love those who love them. And if you do good to those who do good to you, what benefit is that to you? For even sinners do the same. And if you lend to those from whom you expect to receive, what credit is that to you? Even sinners lend to sinners, to get back the same amount. But love your enemies, and do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return, and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High, for he is kind to the ungrateful and the evil. Be merciful, even as your Father is merciful.” -Jesus Christ
